Imran Khan Directs Major PTI Shake-up: Sohail Afridi to Replace Ali Amin Gandapur as KP Chief Minister

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has confirmed a major leadership reshuffle in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with party founder Imran Khan directing Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur to resign. PTI General Secretary Salman Akram Raja announced that Sohail Afridi will replace Gandapur as the new KP Chief Minister, following Imran Khan’s decision. In a Facebook post, Gandapur said the position of chief minister was Imran Khan’s “amanat” and he was returning it in obedience to his leader’s order. PTI later reaffirmed this change through its official X account. According to Raja, the decision was made due to the worsening law and order situation in KP, which has seen a surge in terrorist attacks. He stated that Imran Khan was deeply concerned about the growing instability, particularly after recent incidents in Orakzai. The development comes amid internal disputes within PTI, including tensions between Gandapur and Imran’s sister, Aleema Khan. Political observers believe the move reflects Imran Khan’s effort to strengthen control over the party’s provincial leadership and refocus on governance in the PTI-ruled province.
