Judiciary Under Scrutiny: Why Removing Controversial Judges Is Vital for Pakistan’s Judicial Integrity
The history of Pakistan’s judiciary, with a few honorable exceptions, has often been marred by controversy and disappointment. Today, this concern has grown even deeper as a handful of judges in the Islamabad High Court and the Supreme Court have drawn public attention for all the wrong reasons. Instead of prioritizing the grievances and cases of ordinary citizens, these judges appear more inclined toward political matters, particularly those related to Imran Khan and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Reports suggest that these judges were strategically appointed to the higher judiciary under a specific plan. However, with the departure of those who supported their elevation, they now appear directionless—like fish out of water. The 26th Constitutional Amendment has further dismantled their controversial agendas, leaving their future uncertain. It is worth noting that several of these judges already face pending cases in the Supreme Judicial Council. To safeguard the credibility and dignity of the judiciary, it is essential that decisive action be taken. We respectfully urge the Chief Justice of Pakistan to convene a meeting of the Supreme Judicial Council and address these concerns. Only by removing such elements can the judiciary regain its lost honor and restore the public’s trust.
