Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi Accused of Withholding Saudi Gifts from Toshakhana

Imran, Bushra Instructed Not to Deposit Saudi Gifts in Toshakhana, Court Told ISLAMABAD: New revelations have surfaced in the Toshakhana II case, with a key witness testifying that PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi directed that valuable gifts from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman should not be deposited in the Toshakhana, as required by law. Former military secretary Brigadier (retd) Muhammad Ahmad told the court that the gifts, received during the Saudi visit in May 2021, included a Bulgari jewellery set, bottles of oud, olive oil, dates, and a book. He confirmed that all items were photographed under protocol and formally reported to the Prime Minister’s Office by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. According to Ahmad, the gifts were valued at Rs 2,914,500, which Bushra Bibi deposited into the national treasury. However, the FIA contends that the jewellery was deliberately undervalued to reduce the payable amount. The Bulgari set — comprising a necklace, bracelet, earrings, and a ring — was allegedly worth Rs 75 million, but was shown as only Rs 5.9 million. Witness Statements Expose Valuation Manipulation Testimonies presented in court have implicated Imran Khan’s former personal secretary, Inamullah Shah, and private appraiser Sohaib Abbasi. Shah admitted to pressuring Abbasi into undervaluing the jewellery set, saying: “I asked Abbasi to reduce the value of the jewellery set.” He added that Bushra Bibi’s displeasure later cost him his position. Abbasi confirmed the coercion, telling the court that he lowered the value to Rs 5 million under pressure and threats of being blacklisted from government contracts. His confessional statements were recorded before both the NAB chairman and a magistrate. NAB’s Findings According to NAB, the jewellery set was originally worth over Rs 70 million, citing a 2018 invoice that listed the necklace at €300,000 and the earrings at €80,000. NAB argues that undervaluation deprived the national exchequer of nearly Rs 35 million. The reference filed by NAB further alleges that during his tenure as prime minister (2018–2022), Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi received 108 gifts from foreign dignitaries, but the Saudi Bulgari set was never deposited in the Toshakhana.
