PM Shehbaz Sharif to Lead Pakistan Delegation at UNGA High-Level Week
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is leading Pakistan’s delegation to the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, as the high-level week begins today. The session, themed “Better together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights,” marks the UN’s 80th anniversary with a series of summits, commemorations, and a Sustainable Development Goals Moment. Sharif’s delegation includes Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, senior ministers, and officials. According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the prime minister will urge the international community to resolve long-standing crises in Palestine and Kashmir, emphasizing the right to self-determination. He is also expected to highlight Pakistan’s stance on climate change, terrorism, Islamophobia, and sustainable development. Sharif will address the High-level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine, co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France. He will also attend side events, including Security Council meetings, the Global Development Initiative, and a high-level dialogue on climate action. The Pakistani leader is set to meet several world leaders, senior UN officials, and Islamic leaders—including a joint meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump—to exchange views on regional and global peace.
